Britain’s Sunday Mirror reports that, to the soldiers he was with, Mirror reporter Rupert Hamer was “one of the lads” and “made a big impact.”

Hamer, 39, was killed in Afghanistan when the vehicle he was in was hit by an improvised explosive device. He is survived by three children (ages six, five, and 19 months) and a wife.
