Associated Press National Security Writer, Robert Burns, was recently hailed as the “master of nuke coverage” on ForeignPolicy.com, and for good reason.
His reporting over the past nine months has revealed serious lapses in the securing of the U.S. nuclear arsenal. The revelations prompted Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to order a full review into what is ailing the Air Force group responsible for nuclear missiles.
Asked at a recent news conference why Hagel was taking action now, the Pentagon spokesman replied: “He’s been following the coverage, particularly by The Associated Press.”
Burns, along with Assistant Washington Bureau Chief, Wendy Benjaminson, will discuss AP’s ongoing investigation on Feb. 5, at the Newseum, 555 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., in Washington.
The discussion starts at 2 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on the Newseum website. It is part of the Newseum Institute’s Journalism/Works series that explores journalism that matters. It will cover what led to the string of AP news breaks and exclusive stories and what’s next.
Admission is free, but registration is required.
