The Institute for War & Peace Reporting, an international media development organization that has played a leading role in the professionalization of the media within Afghanistan, is currently accepting applications from veteran broadcast journalists to help guide one of Afghanistan’s leading private television stations as it launches an ambitious current affairs program.

Summary:
This position will work closely with a newly created investigative team at Afghan TV, Afghanistan’s first private broadcaster, to offer editorial and technical guidance on the development and production of this groundbreaking watchdog programming.
Afghan TV will produce 26 episodes over 12 months, providing an in-depth exploration of the issues that affect Afghans daily, from rampant corruption to access to healthcare, gender equality and judicial reform.
Main duties:
To provide initial training on the basics of investigative reporting. This training will create a foundation for continuing education throughout the life of the consultancy. To provide close editorial guidance on the development and production of stories. Working closely with Afghan TV’s investigate team, the consultant will be involved in every step of story production, from brainstorming ideas to scripting, reporting and editing. The ensure that Afghan TV programming adheres to acceptable journalistic standards and best practices, and that the investigative project is sustainable following the completion of the consultancy. To ensure that reports (narrative, financial and M&E) on program activities are submitted on a timely and regular basis that conform to IWPR and donor requirements. We are seeking a skillful, energetic reporter who can provide comprehensive coverage of local and national military news. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to cover breaking news with vigor and produce top-notch enterprise stories worthy of Page 1 consideration. They must have a proven record of cultivating sources, spotting trends, and know how to make sense of complicated matters for the benefit of our readers. Candidates must be able to work with other reporters and provide excerpts of stories to our associated radio and TV operations.
Position Summary: High-performing reporter in a fast-paced newsroom, capable of consistently producing exceptional daily and weekend content.
Position Responsibilities: To cover local and national news concerning the nation’s military, particularly the Air Force and National Guard. This position requires someone who can produce strong A1-worthy stories about the men, women and organizations that assist in our nation’s defense and provide services to local veterans.
Position Requirements: Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism or a related field. At least three years experience reporting for a daily newspaper. Ability to work in team environment. The beat includes Dover Air Force Base, several National Guard and reserve units and the burgeoning Aberdeen Proving Ground, just over the line in Maryland.
