WASHINGTON, May 9 — The Military Reporters & Editors association announced today that the winner of its annual photography award is Dave Paone, whose winning work appeared in War History Online.

“Paone’s black and white photo of World War II tail gunner Stanley Feltman at age 91 holding a photo of himself in uniform during the war is exquisitely composed to see the man he was and is,” said the judges. “The portrait gives the sense of what you read in the story – Feltman was a handsome young man with an active social life and a dedication to the military, something that clearly still motivates him today.”

Paone and other winners of the annual contest for defense-related journalism will be honored at the organization’s annual conference on Oct. 25, 2019, at the Navy League of the United States headquarters in Arlington, Va.

Military Reporters & Editors, or MRE, is a leading national membership organization for journalists on the national-security beat and other professionals in the field.
