Military Reporters & Editors Statement On The Death Of Brent Renaud

March 13, 2022

March 13, 2022 | Washington, D.C.: The Military Reporters & Editors Association expresses its profound condolences to the family of Brent Renaud, the journalist and filmmaker who was killed in Ukraine on Sunday.

Renaud was telling the stories of people who have been under relentless attack since Russia launched a full-scale war on Ukraine in late February. He and other journalists allow the entire world to bear witness to the unfolding nightmare inside Ukraine. Journalists who report from combat zones risk their lives to make sure that victims of war are not treated as nameless statics.

We call for the protection of journalists, especially in conflict areas, to do their work without fear of violence or intimidation. This is not the first instance of reporters being fired upon in Ukraine, as a recent video from Sky News has shown.

We honor the memory of Brent Renaud, who represented the best of our profession.
