WASHINGTON, March 30 — The Military Reporters & Editors Association calls on the Russian government to release The Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.
Gershkovich is a journalist, not a spy. Russia’s Federal Security Service has no legitimate reason to hold him in custody.
As an American citizen, Gershkovich deserves every protection afforded to him by the U.S. government. The White House and State Department should make every diplomatic effort possible to secure his release.
Whenever journalists are unjustly detained, it sends a chilling message that cannot be tolerated.
