Military Reporters & Editors announces its 2024 MRE Conference lineup

U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David W. Allvin and U.S. Navy Capt. Chris “Chowdah” Hill to be Keynote Speakers

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26, 2024 – Military Reporters & Editors is announcing our slate of speakers for the annual conference scheduled for October 25 in Washington, DC. 

The highlights from this year’s conference include:

Keynote: Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David W. Allvin. A member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Allvin is responsible for the organization, training and equipping of 689,000 active-duty, Guard, Reserve and civilian forces serving in the United States and overseas. He also serves as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, which provides military advice to the Secretary of Defense, National Security Council and the President.

Keynote: Capt. Chris ”Chowdah” Hill is the commander of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, which returned to Norfolk in July after what the Navy has dubbed the most active deployment by a carrier strike group since World War II. The Ike engaged in multiple air strikes, targeting Houthi Rebel positions in Yemen. During the deployment, the captain demonstrated how the Navy can use social media as a tool to enhance morale and counter disinformation.

Dialogue with Rear Adm. John Kirby (ret.), White House National Security Communications Advisor. Kirby has become one of the most recognized official voices on national security policy.  After retiring from the Navy in 2015, Kirby became the spokesman for the U.S. State Department. In 2021, he was appointed Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs.

Conversation with David Martin, who has spent more than 40 years at CBS News covering the Pentagon and national security. He has reported on every major conflict that U.S. forces have been involved in for nearly the last four decades, with his reports airing on “60 Minutes,” “CBS News Sunday Mornings” and the “CBS Evening News.” 

The MRE conference will be held at the Medill School of Journalism’s Washington Newsroom, 1301 K St, NW, Suite 200 West, Washington, DC 20005. The 2024 MRE Conference Day covers more than 10 hours of events plus opportunities for MRE members and conference attendees to network and socialize. The conference is followed by The Combat Correspondents Dinner at the National Press Club.
